Parvati Venugopal Nair (born 5 December 1992) is an Indian model and actress who works in the South Indian film industry. Born into a Malayali family in Abu Dhabi, she trained as a software professional from Manipal Institute of Technology. She started modelling at the age of 15 .

Nair made her acting debut with the Malayalam film Poppins as a lead in the 5 segments directed by V. K. Prakash during her Christmas vacations in December 2012, before appearing in a number of critically acclaimed films across all four South Indian film industries, including Story Kathe (2014 ) and Yennai Arindhaal (2015). Her performance as a young journalist in Story Kathe won her the Best Kannada Debut Actress Award at the South Indian International Movie Awards, while the role of a vengeful wife in Yennai Arindhaal won her praise from critics and received a Filmfare nomination. In 2015, she starred in the critical and commercial success Vascodigama, portraying an English lecturer.

In the mythology of the 1992 election, the candidates largely bypassed the traditional media in favor of such outlets as "Larry King Live" and "Donahue." While the shift to "new news" did alter the face of politics, a much more significant change in political communication occurred elsewhere: on the local media battlefield. Local TV may have wielded greater influence with voters than the networks, newspapers and maybe even the talk shows. And Bill Clinton's victory was due in large part to knowing how to use the local media to send his message of change.

Zuckerman to Reopen Bargaining With Daily News Typographers

A day after he lost a court fight with a union of typographers at The Daily News, Mortimer B. Zuckerman prepared to open talks with that union, Mr. Zuckerman's spokeswoman said yesterday. Renewed talks with the New York Typographical Union No. 6 and a continuing standoff with a second union, the New York Newspaper Guild, could delay Mr. Zuckerman's planned purchase of The News, which was to have occurred by the end of this month.

MERRILL LYNCH NAMED IN SUIT AGAINST MARRIOTT

Merrill Lynch & Company, which advised the Marriott Corporation on its controversial reorganization plan, is a defendant in a class-action suit filed yesterday against the hotel chain and its executives. Yesterday's filing combines lawsuits filed in October and adds Merrill as a defendant. "Merrill, in its capacity as underwriter on several bond issues, is liable" under Federal securities laws, said Robert Bertsch, a lawyer at Milberg Weiss Bershad Specthrie & Lerach, the firm heading the class-action plaintiffs' committee. Last month, Merrill Lynch quit as adviser to Marriott on its restructuring plan amid protests from customers.

SEQUOIA STOCK SLIDES AFTER FINANCING REFUSAL

Sequoia Systems Inc.'s stock closed down 28.6 percent in heavy trading yesterday after the cash-starved computer company said its 10 percent equity owner, the Hewlett-Packard Company, would not provide new financing. In over-the-counter trading, Sequoia Systems shares dropped 87.5 cents, to $2.625, on volume of 1.56 million shares. Average daily trading volume in the stock over the last three months is 117,850 shares.

Hong Kong Stocks Surge

Stock prices in Hong Kong surged 5.8 percent today, but the conflict that caused the Hang Seng index to plunge 12 percent in the last week -- a confrontation between China and Britain over Hong Kong's political and economic future -- is far from over. The mood in the market today was buoyed somewhat by news that Chinese and British officials will meet next week in a regular session of the Sino-British Joint Liaison Group. Few analysts believe much will come out of the talks, however.

Dow Chemical Revamping

The Dow Chemical Company today announced the early stages of a restructuring that will divide the company's management into three businesses. Dow Chemical's chairman and chief executive, Frank P. Popoff, who this week succeeded Paul F. Oreffice, named William S. Stavropoulos president and chief operating officer, effective April 1. Dow Chemical has been without a chief operating officer since the late 1980's, a company spokesman, Matt Davis, said.

Aura Sues Former Counsel

Aura Systems Inc. has filed a lawsuit accusing Samuel G. Guzik, formerly its senior vice president, general counsel and a director, of "a continuous pattern of intentional misconduct and gross negligence." Harry Kurtzman, Aura's president, said Mr. Guzik was dismissed as an officer two weeks before his resignation on Oct. 30. "He was not performing his job for the company," Mr. Kurtzman said. He declined to comment further.

January Crude Oil Contract Falls for 5th Straight Time

Crude oil for delivery in January fell for the fifth consecutive session, to its lowest level since early March, weighed down by burdensome supplies and slack demand, analysts said today. Initially, crude oil rebounded in reaction to a report from the International Energy Agency that estimated first-quarter demand at 40 million barrels a day, up 600,000 barrels a day from the fourth quarter, for the countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
